What's the difference between concierge medicine and Direct Primary Care?

Both models trade the volume-based, ten-minute-visit approach for more time and access. The difference is what happens to your insurance after you join.

A concierge practice typically layers an annual retainer on top of the insurance you already carry — and still bills your insurance for every visit, on top of the retainer you already paid. You end up covering two costs for the same appointment: the membership fee, and whatever your plan doesn't cover at the visit.

Direct Primary Care replaces that stack with one flat, transparent membership. We don't bill insurance for visits at all, which means no surprise claims, no copays stacked on your membership fee, and no upfront retainer in the thousands before you've had a single appointment.

How do I pay for labs?

We hold client-bill accounts directly with LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics. That means we're billed at heavily discounted, pre-negotiated rates — the same kind large hospital systems get — and we pass that pricing straight through to you at or near our cost, rather than the inflated "list price" an uninsured patient would normally see. You pay the practice directly for labs, typically at the time they're ordered or drawn, with the price known upfront.

Can you submit that to insurance?

Sometimes, but it isn't guaranteed. Because these are billed through a client account rather than run through your insurance as an in-network claim, we can give you an itemized receipt to submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement — but whether they'll reimburse, and how much, depends entirely on your specific plan. We'd rather tell you that plainly than promise something we can't control.

How does imaging work?

We negotiate cash self-pay rates directly with local imaging centers here in the Loudoun / Northern Virginia area — for X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, and CT scans. You pay the imaging center directly at that negotiated rate, which we've worked to keep well below standard list pricing. As with labs, you'll receive an itemized receipt you're welcome to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement — again, not guaranteed, and dependent on your plan's terms.

Can I cancel my membership anytime?

Yes. There's no long-term contract. We ask for 30 days written notice to cancel, which gives us time to close out any care in progress and gives you a clear, predictable end date rather than a sudden gap in coverage. Your membership — and membership fee — stays active through that 30-day notice period, and then simply ends. No penalties, no hidden exit fees.

What if I don't like my experience — can I get out of the membership?

Every new member is covered by a 90-day money-back guarantee. If Direct Primary Care isn't the right fit for you within your first 90 days, let us know and we'll refund your membership — no hard feelings, no hoops to jump through.

The one condition: because the guarantee is meant to let you try the model risk-free rather than move in and out of membership at will, members who use it aren't able to re-enroll for 12 months afterward. Outside of that first 90-day window, the standard 30-day cancellation notice above applies any time you decide to leave.
